Introducing Design Yangu: Kenya's First Premium Print-on-Demand Studio
Today we launch something we have been building for months — a platform that we believe will permanently change how Kenyan creatives turn their ideas into products. Here is the story of why we built it, and what we are betting on.
There is no shortage of talented designers in Kenya. Walk through any campus in Nairobi, scroll through KOT for five minutes, or visit any creative hub from Westlands to Karen and you will find people with extraordinary visual talent. The problem has never been the talent. The problem has been access — access to affordable manufacturing, access to payment rails that work here, access to a platform that treats African creators like the professionals they are.
That is the problem Design Yangu was built to solve.
We are Kenya's first premium print-on-demand platform, built entirely for the Kenyan market by a Nairobi team. You design. We print. We deliver. And if you are a designer who wants to monetise your artwork, you earn 70% of every sale — paid every Friday via M-Pesa.
The platform has three parts working together. First, a canvas editor that runs in your browser — add text, upload artwork, pick from clipart, draw freehand, and see your design on a product preview before you order anything. No Photoshop, no design degree required. Second, a product catalogue — starting with t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, tote bags, phone cases, and posters, with more products being added. Third, a creator marketplace — where designers can list their artwork on products and sell to anyone in Kenya.
We are still early. There is a lot we want to build — product mockup generation, a wider product catalogue, design templates curated for Kenyan aesthetics, more delivery options, and eventually, East Africa-wide expansion. But we believe in shipping early and improving with our community.
We built this for the Gikomba entrepreneur who wants to brand their stall without ordering 200 pieces. For the JKUAT class that wants matching hoodies for their graduation. For the Nairobi illustrator who has been posting on Instagram for two years and has never made a shilling from it. For the wedding planner who wants personalised gifts that do not look like they came from China.
