How to Price Your Designs on Design Yangu: A Kenyan Designer's Pricing Guide

One of the most common questions we get from designers joining Design Yangu is this: "How much should I charge for my designs?"

One of the most common questions we get from designers joining Design Yangu is this: "How much should I charge for my designs?"

It sounds simple. It's actually one of the most important decisions you'll make as a designer. Price too low and you're working hard for almost nothing. Price too high and buyers scroll past. Get it right and your designs start earning you money while you sleep.

This guide is going to break it down honestly in KES, for real Kenyan designers, for real Kenyan buyers.

Base Price Design Yangu sets the base production cost for each product (printing, materials, quality check). This is what it costs to actually make the item. 2. Your Markup You add your margin on top of the base price. This is your profit. 3. Buyer Price What the customer sees and pays. Base price + your markup.

To set smart prices, you need to know the floor. Here's a rough guide for popular products:

| Product | Base Production Cost (approx.) | |---------|-------------------------------| | Classic T-Shirt (unisex, standard quality) | KES 750 KES 900 | | Premium T-Shirt (heavyweight cotton) | KES 950 KES 1,100 | | Hoodie (pullover, full print) | KES 1,800 KES 2,200 | | Mug (ceramic, full wrap print) | KES 450 KES 600 | | Phone Case (standard models) | KES 350 KES 500 | | Tote Bag (canvas, one-side print) | KES 300 KES 450 | | Cap (structured, embroidered logo) | KES 600 KES 800 |

Note: Base prices vary by design complexity, print area, and product variant. You'll see exact figures when you list your product.

For most products, you want at least KES 500 markup to make the time and creativity worth it. Below that, after you consider your design time, promotion effort, and the value of your artistry it's not worth it.
