How to Buy Custom Merchandise in Kenya: Your Complete First-Order Guide

First time ordering custom t-shirts or merch in Kenya? Here's exactly how Design Yangu works — from choosing a design to paying via M-Pesa and getting your order delivered.

You've seen the t-shirt. Maybe a friend shared it. Maybe you spotted it on Instagram — a Kenyan designer's clean graphic on a well-fitted tee, and you thought: I want that. Or something like it, but for my team, my event, my brand. But then you got stuck. How does this actually work? Is it legit? How do you pay? How long does delivery take? This guide answers all of it.

Design Yangu is a Kenyan print-on-demand marketplace. Independent Kenyan designers upload their artwork. You browse, pick what you like, and order it on a t-shirt, hoodie, tote bag, or mug. The designer earns a commission. The product is printed and shipped directly to you. No middle-man hunt. No Industrial Area trip. No sending money to someone's personal number and hoping for the best. Everything happens online and you pay via M-Pesa.

Step 1: Browse and find your design. Head to designyangu.com and filter by category (streetwear, nature, Afrobeat, political, corporate, sport), by product type (t-shirts, hoodies, tote bags, mugs), or search by keyword. Tap the design to see it on the actual product — most listings show front view, back view, and a model wearing it. Step 2: Choose your product and size. Design Yangu products tend to run true to size. If you're between sizes, go up, especially for hoodies.

Step 5: Pay via M-Pesa. At checkout, click 'Pay with M-Pesa.' You'll receive an M-Pesa STK Push on your phone asking you to enter your PIN. Enter your PIN and confirm. You'll receive an M-Pesa confirmation SMS with a transaction code — save this. Always wait for the STK push on your phone. Don't manually send money to any number — the payment is handled securely through Safaricom's Daraja API.

After your payment confirms, your order enters production. Order confirmed immediately after M-Pesa payment, production (printing) takes 1-2 business days, courier pickup on business day 2-3, out for delivery in Nairobi on business day 3-4, upcountry on business day 5-7. You'll receive SMS and WhatsApp updates at each stage.

Design Yangu products use direct-to-garment (DTG) printing — the same technology used for premium merch internationally. Colours are accurate: what you see on screen is what prints. Bright colours stay bright. Intricate designs stay sharp. The fabric is quality — no stiff plasticky prints that crack after two washes. The fit is consistent because it's standardised production, not a local printer doing it by eye.

M-Pesa security: payment goes through Safaricom's official Daraja API. You get an M-Pesa transaction receipt — the same as any official business payment. If a transaction fails, your money stays in your M-Pesa. Kenya Data Protection compliance: your personal data is handled according to Kenya's Data Protection Act (2019).

If you need 10+ pieces for a corporate event, team kit, school trip, NGO uniform, or music video — Design Yangu can handle it. For very large orders (50+), it's worth reaching out to the support team first to confirm production timelines and potentially discuss pricing.
